Past Activities
The programs below have been run in the past and may appear in the future. Call (937) 275-PARK to find out when they may be offered again or to put in a request.
Protecting Your Child from “Nature-Deficit Disorder”
As an attentive parent, you’ve observed how obsessive your child can be over computers, video games and television. You’ve heard compelling statistics connecting you child’s behavior with obesity, lack of imagination and diminishing care for our environment. Come explore this research and learn methods to guide your child back to nature. You will also learn how to turn your backyard into a nature discovery playground, providing a place where your children can re-connect with nature.
Family Nature Games
Bring your family out and learn how to inject fun into your nature hikes by playing games that teach ecological principals.
Prairie Games
Discover why prairies are one of the best places to play in winter. Bring the family and play nature games in this tall grass habitat.

Parks with Outdoor Play
No special amenities are needed for outdoor play…just space to run and roam. At Five Rivers MetroParks, we’ve got over 14,000 acres of nature to do just that.
Pick a park and start playing!
OnGoing
Outdoor Explorers Club (ages 8 – 12)
Get your kids away from the television and out into the fresh air! Outdoor play for children builds healthy bodies, releases pent up energy and stress, and encourages creativity and a curiosity to learn.
Passport to Nature
Travel Through Your MetroParks and Discover Nature and Fun!

How it Works
Visit MetroParks facilities, participate in designated passport programs and get your passport stamped. When eight of the boxes are stamped, fill in the requested information and mail your passport to MetroParks.

What to Look For
Look for Passport to Nature symbol or the text Passport to Nature in Metro ParkWays or in the Calendar of Events on the website.

What You Get
Every child who completes a passport with eight stamps will become an official MetroParks Nature Traveler and will receive a nature traveler backpack, along with recognition in Parkways. Nature Travelers who complete additional passports will get gear to put in their backpack for nature exploration.
