Spring is Here! Get Out & Live during this first spring at MoMBA. Ride
the sweet singletrack as you wind through the lush forest and rocky outcroppings
of Huffman MetroPark. You’ll be engulfed by the crisp breeze on your face as you
sleuth down Upper Stealth before zipping past the pastel hues of thousands of wildflowers
on Voodoo. The crisp blue skies call out spring while kicking it in Hawk’s Lair
and the cool air will soon give way to exuberation as you cross one more babbling
brook on your way to that post ride beverage. Five Rivers MetroParks is full of
water, thus the three Rivers and two creeks that make up our name, and taking advantage
of these water resources can be enjoyable and fun with some instruction this spring.
Take the Kayak Basics class for instruction on paddle strokes and safety techniques
or dive into the Beginner Whitewater Series to take your skills to the next level
that ends with a paddle on the Class II/III Paint Creek during their spring dam
release. Backpacking close to home will never be easier with the opening of the
Twin Valley Trail, a 22 mile backpacking trail including secluded backcountry camping
in Germantown and Twin Creek MetroParks and don’t miss the Grand Opening Festivities
on June 21. Be prepared to take advantage of the trail with our spring backpacking
progression; Backpacking Basics, Introduction to Backpacking, and a trip to Dolly
Sods in West Virginia make a perfect jumpstart to building confidence and skill
to enjoy a lifetime of backpacking on the Twin Valley Trail and beyond.
